We all know date night can get monotonous and boring, right? I think we’ve all been guilty of falling into the trap of just doing dinner and a movie again. And the invention of MoviePass hasn’t helped. While I think we should try to spice up our date nights all the time, there’s no more important than on your anniversary, am I right?
So here are 5 creative ways to celebrate your anniversary (that aren’t dinner and a movie. Again).
Table of Contents
ONE || Relive your Wedding
This is one of my favorite things to do on our anniversary. And no, I don’t mean you have to recreate your entire wedding or renew your vows every year. I just mean, do something that reminds you of that day. Something that reminds you of the vows you made to each other and the emotions you had and the thoughts running through your mind.
So maybe you’ll cuddle up on the couch with some popcorn and watch your wedding video. Of you could dance in the kitchen to your wedding song. (or sing your wedding duet, if you’re like us). You could even dig up the vows you wrote to each other and read them aloud.
TWO || Reminisce on the Past
I like to use yearly milestones like birthdays and anniversaries to look back on the last year. I like to evaluate the year, remember the good times, and learn from the bad.
Maybe you and your spouse can look at photos of all the adventures you had in the last year. Maybe you could even recreate the best date of the year. Laugh at your funny memories. Talk about things you’re going to change in your marriage this year. Things you’re going to do better.
You could also take this opportunity to look back past the last year. How has your marriage grown over the years? Could you recreate your first date or your first kiss?
THREE || Dream about your Future
So you probably know that I think couples should have regular check-ins with each other. Whether you call it a “business meeting,” an “Us Date.” or “Companion Inventory.” It’s important to look back at your successes and mistakes (as I mentioned in the last section) as well as looking forward to the week or month ahead. You get on the same schedule, you plan for date night, and you discuss what you can do better as a couple.
How about doing that on a much bigger scale every anniversary? You can make vacation plans and set goals together for the years to come. Amberly of A Prioritized Marriage sits down with her husband every year both around the New Year and around their anniversary in June. They use this tome to talk about goals they have and where they want to be next year, in five years, and in ten years! I love this idea!
FOUR || Make a Tradition
I love having rituals and traditions in our marriage. And what better time for a fun tradition than on your anniversary? As I mentioned in the last point, having an ultimate couple check-in every year could be a fun tradition.
Or maybe every year on your anniversary, you buy something for your home. Or maybe you write letters to each other to open next year. Or make an entire time capsule to open next year! Or you could have a photo shoot using The Dating Divas’ Anniversary Kits. These kits include a fun picture frame, a traditional anniversary gift, a creative anniversary gift, and bonus anniversary ideas!
FIVE || Use Date Crescent
I love Crescent because, not only does it get me out of having to plan something new and exciting, it allows us to try things that we might have never even heard of! Check out my blog post from last month explaining more about how it works. And then, sign up for your first date with Crescent using my code: 12B85AAA49 for 50% off whatever package you choose!
So here’s to making anniversaries a big deal again (like I talked about here) and celebrating with more than the same old dinner and a movie! How will you celebrate your next anniversary?
