No Buy Style Challenge: Spring Pastels Outfit Inspiration

No Buy Style Challenge: Spring Pastels Outfit Inspiration

You guys! It’s finally starting to warm up around here! I would say it’s “starting to feel like spring” but I guess technically chilly rain is pretty typical springtime weather. So it’s “felt like spring” for several weeks now. But over the weekend the sun came out and it warmed up to the low 60’s and it lifted my spirits tremendously!

Shopping your own closet is a great way to find fun outfits and get more life out of your pieces. A great time to do this is when the seasons change! Here is some spring outfit inspiration from my own closet!

I’m also super excited today because a few blog friends and I have decided to start a monthly collaboration around fashion! Each month, one of us will provide a photo for “inspiration” and the others will all create a corresponding outfit out of pieces we already own.

This month, Brita shared the above photo in her beautiful spring pastels and flower crown. As I pulled out my spring clothes, I realized that I don’t really have that many pastels. Typically, I wear either bright colors or neutrals. I finally found this dress and decided it was close enough!

No Buy Style Challenge

I don’t really have links for items in my outfit because I bought almost everything second hand or from “off-price” stores (TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls). Besides, the point of this challenge is to shop your own closet. Not to purchase from my links.

The dress came from Platos Closet in Ohio a couple years ago. I paired it with a denim jacket (Old Navy brand but purchased from Platos Closet) because the weather is still chilly here. My brown sandals from Marshalls worked perfectly. I added some pink studs I’ve had forever and a dainty silver necklace I got for Christmas and called it a day (or rather an hour or so because I don’t have anywhere to go #coronavirus2020 #stayhome).

Spring outfit of the day

Whenever the seasons change, I think about my wardrobe all over again as I’m sure most people do. I’ve kept a rotating capsule wardrobe for a couple years now so swapping pieces out with the seasons is absolutely essential. Plus it’s a fun way to get out of a rut and discover items of clothing you might have forgotten you even had.

I always get the most excited for season changes from winter to spring and summer to fall. There’s just something about those seasons in between the extremes, you know? So I got super excited when the sky finally stopped leaking this weekend and the temperatures reached the 60s. I dragged Pearson outside to take some spring outfit pictures!

Spring fashion

As I mentioned earlier, the change of a season is a great time to “shop your closet.” As you put away your clothes for cold weather and pull out your spring and summer wardrobe, you can assess each piece. Try it on. Discover things you like and don’t like. Start a donation pile. And put together “new” and fun outfits. It’s almost as good as actually shopping only much cheaper!

Spring vibes

Besides, right now we should all be staying home to flatten the Coronavirus curve. So it’s more important than ever to shop your own closet rather than buying new clothes. Yes I know we might not have many a reason to get dressed right now. But I personally find joy in trying on clothes and picking out an outfit to wear around the house.

Be sure to click over to the style challenge posts from these other lovely ladies! Check out how they each interpreted the spring pastel look with items from their own closet.

Have you switched over your wardrobe from winter to spring yet? Are you a pastels kind of person?

  1. I love your take on it! That dress is so cute. And I’m a big fan of denim jackets. I finally found the perfect one last summer. I’m with you on the whole “all dressed up with nowhere to go” problem. I am at least trying to get dressed everyday, but I have no idea when I last wore makeup besides lipstick for filming.

    1. Thank you! I’ll admit, I don’t typically wear a dress when I get “dressed up with nowhere to go.” It’s more like jeans and sneakers. But It still makes me feel better.

  2. I absolutely love your dress. It get me in the mood for spring. Even though I have nowhere to go I feel like I should dress up this weekend. Thank you for the inspiration.

  6. Yes!! Thanks for reminding me that nows the perfect time for a good spring clean. Going to get that scheduled for this weekend. It’s not like I have any plans to go out for the weekend anyway đŸ˜’đŸ˜’

  7. Shopping your closest – that is a great line! Earlier this year, I went to Amvets shopping for a themed cruise I was supposed to be on in a few weeks. I found a retro long sleeve pastel shirt that I thought was perfect for Easter! While it may be a bit ‘outdated’ it is definitely shouts SPRING and it is not outdated to me! Can’t wait to wear it out – at some point!

  8. I lode to read your blog, it is inspiring in this situation, you looks gorgeous in this outfit and colours of spring.
