Reading Roundup August {2017}

Reading Roundup August {2017}

You guys! I actually read a lot this month! As I said in my review of The Sleeping Beauty Killer last month, I really like modern, realistic murder mysteries. I can’t put them down! I currently have 9 books checked out of the library. Most of which are this genre. And I can’t wait to read them even though I have 4 other books i’m supposed to be reading because I’m on their launch teams… Oops.

Anyway, let’s move on to my reviews for this month, shall we?

Book reviews of everything I read in August.

Adulthood is a Myth: A Sarah’s Scribbles Collection by Sarah Andersen

You guys, this collection of Sarah’s Scribbles was so fun! I love Sarah’s little comics I see all over the internet (that come from her website) it it was fun to have a physical book to read through and laugh at whenever I had a few free minutes this month. I highly recommend it and I may actually buy it and her new one, Big Mushy Happy Lump to have on hand and be able to grab whenever I need a laugh!

One of the books in my august book review roundup.

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

I saw this book in Barnes and Noble at Christmastime last year (before Carrie Fisher passed) and my first reaction was to buy it right then and there! But as I read the description and a little more about it, I realized I might not actually enjoy it. I realized it might ruin Carrie’s image in my mind. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I knew she wasn’t perfect, but I decided I didn’t need to know every detail.
Fast forward about 8 months. Carrie has been dead for a while and I’m still not over it. One day I took a stroll around my neighborhood library and there was her latest book. I decided on a whim to pick it up and read it. After all, I wouldn’t be spending any money on it.
Anyway, all this to say… I am so glad I decided to read it. Yes there were a lot of not-very-wholesome details about her life but it gave so much insight. I will never watch the Star Wars movies the same way again. I feel like I know her so much better now. Just like I do after reading any memoir. And there were several points in the book during which I actually cried. Like when she said she couldn’t imagine a TV obituary about her that didn’t have pictures of her famous bun hairstyle.
Anyway, yes I highly recommend this book to any Star Wars and/or Carrie Fisher fans. But fair warning, it’s not exactly clean. Then again, it wasn’t the dirtiest book I’ve ever read either.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

Wow. I had heard great things about this book. And I heard that if I liked The Girl on the Train, then I would love this one. And I LOVED The Girl on the Train. Anyway, this book was awesome! It was different from a typical murder mystery because there was more than one mystery. You weren’t just trying to figure out who the murderer was, you were also trying to figure out who was murdered. Yes there was a twist at the end, but it wasn’t a typical twist where the murder was someone totally unexpected, it was so much more than that! Not only that but the crazy, adrenaline filled scary scene at the end was even crazier than others.
Anyway, that’s all I’ll say so I don’t give any more away. But just trust me, read it! Especially if you like modern murder mysteries like me, as I found out last month!

  1. I was very pleasantly surprised! I laughed and cried and have a new appreciation for Star Wars and celebrities in general. Especially "one hit wonder" types. I bet the audio book is awesome. I may need to find it on audible even though I already read it. lol Or maybe I'll read one of her other books that way if she narrates all of them.
