Once upon a time, I bought a couple statement necklaces that everybody is wearing these days. But I had a problem. How do I wear them? Just with any outfit? What kind of earrings do I wear with it? Do colors need to match or coordinate or not? So I googled ‘How to wear statement jewelry’, and an article I found told me not only how to style them but also to make my own. So I thought “I have so much jewelry that I don’t wear, would I wear it if it was all together?” So I looked on Pinterest for some ideas and decided to go for it. I made two.
Here is what I did for the first one sorta following this tutorial:
I took little pieces of jewelry and things I had and arranged them the way I wanted.
- Anyway, I laid out all these pieces the way I wanted on the fabric as close together as possible. I wanted very little fabric showing through. I put the earrings in the top corners because I was going to use the little rings on them for the chain around my neck later.
- I then hot glued all the pieces down.
- Then I cut the denim fabric out as close to the edge of the bib as possible.
- I tied ribbon through the rings on the tops of the earrings and left them long enough to tie around my neck. [I may go back later and put a chain instead of ribbon but I didn’t have anything like that in the apartment].
For the second one, I found this tutorial for a braided necklace and sort of followed it…
I used 3 old necklaces that I never wear, 6 lengths of ribbons, and 2 binder rings.
- I put one of the rings through all the necklaces.
- I tied the ribbons around the ring arranged in such a way to create three equal sections. [Sorry I didn’t take pictures of this part]
- Each section consisted of one necklace and 2 ribbons.
- I braided the sections.
- When I got to the end, I put the other ring through the necklaces again and did my best to tie the ribbons around it.
- Lastly, I tied more purple ribbon around the rings and left enough room to tie them around my neck.
Now lets see if I am ever bold enough to wear them somewhere besides my own apartment.
What do you think?
