I’ll be honest, I don’t know everything that is going on with our government right now. I know that congress is in a stale mate and therefore the government has been shutdown for over a week now. I don’t know a whole lot about Obama Care but I do know a little bit. I know that there are good things and bad things about it, and I know a lot of people are either strongly for or against it. Maybe I should care more about this stuff. But frankly, I don’t. One thing I do know is that our government is not the only authority I answer to.

In November of last year, during my 30 days of thanks, I posted this on Facebook. It was the day of the presidential election and I was tired of hearing all the arguing and worrying about who would be elected. I feel the same way today. We serve a God who is greater than our government. He is greater than any healthcare plan out there. He is greater than Obama and even greater than congress. 

Basically, whether you are for or against Obama Care, stop worrying! Ok ok, I know. Easier said than done. But God says [through Paul] in Romans 13:1 “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” (ESV). Well, that right there tells me that God has a plan. Instead of worrying, complaining, and arguing, we Christians should trust God and pray for the leaders of our country. No they are not perfect, and no system of any kind that humans put into practice is perfect, but God knows what he is doing. Whether God’s plan is for the healthcare changes to work and be good for our country or for us to learn from our mistakes, I trust Him.

So today, I am thankful that our government is not the only authority I answer to. I am thankful that my God is bigger than the US government. And I am thankful that He has a plan and will not leave those of us who spend our lives serving Him.
