The Book That Has My Heart {TGBTL #7}

We all have certain possessions that mean a little more to us than what the item actually is. Do you know what I mean? We have items that symbolize something spectacular like our wedding rings. Or we have items that aren’t worth any money but they are invaluable to us because of who they’re from. Kinda like all the letters I have kept from Pearson over the years.

Today I want to talk about a tangible item that has a lot of intangible value in my eyes. My bridesmaids gave me and Pearson a Bible the night before we got married. It was out first family Bible. They had it engraved with “Mr. & Mrs. Maugeri” which means a lot to me to begin with. This was my first possession with my new name on it!

But more importantly, all of my bridesmaids underlined their favorite verse in the Bible. This means so much to me because all of the girls in my wedding are wonderful God-fearing women. They all have their own stories of faith and they all have passages that speak to them in different ways. They shared that with me.

These girls all live far away from me. Lets see, I had seven bridesmaids and three junior bridesmaids. All three juniors and two bridesmaids live in Georgia. Three bridesmaids live in Arkansas, one lives in Tennessee, and one in Alabama. I miss them all like crazy every day! But when I pick up that Bible, I can flip through the pages and find a verse that one of these wonderful ladies underlined and I feel that much closer to her. Sometimes I find a verse, think of that girl and say a little prayer for her. Other times I may be struggling with something and I’ll turn to a passage in this Bible that I need to read and I’ll see one of my best friends’ name. It’s pretty cool because when I need to trust God with what’s going on in my life, I turn to Proverbs 3:5-6 and I see my best friend’s name, it is cool to know that she finds comfort in those verses as well.

After we got back from our honeymoon, Pearson and I brought this Bible to church and had some of our other friends underline their favorite verses in it. We were moving away in a couple weeks and we wanted to remember these friends through this Bible as well.

Now the Bible sits on our coffee table. It is a centerpiece of the room where we spend most of our time. In the evenings sometimes we will pick it up and read from it. Or we will flip through it and remember our friends. I love this Bible and I am so thankful to my maid of honor for this wonderful idea and to my bridesmaids for making it happen!
