Favorite Hymns and Spiritual Songs

Every month, the college and young adults groups at church have a “Sing Night.” We pick one Saturday night and all go over to somebody’s house. We share a meal and sing praises to God for a couple hours. I LOVE this tradition. I always look forward to the fellowship and the singing is so uplifting and encouraging. So after Sing Night last week, I thought a lot about what my favorite worship songs are and I’ve narrowed it down to these 5 that I want to share. Now if we’re being honest, there really aren’t praise songs that I don’t like, but I wanted to keep it to a minimum here. So enjoy!
It is Well (With My Soul)
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul
My sin–oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin not in part, but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul
And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll
The trump shall re-sound and the Lord shall descend
“Even, so,” it is well with my soul

I Stand in Awe
You are beautiful beyond description,
Too marvelous for words,
Too wonderful for comprehension,
Like nothing ever seen or heard.
Who can grasp your infinite wisdom?
Who can fathom the depth of your love?
You are beautiful beyond description,
Majesty enthroned above.
And I stand, I stand in awe of you.
I stand, I stand in awe of you.
Holy God, to whom all praise is due,
I stand in awe of you.

The Battle Belongs to the Lord
In heavenly armor we’ll enter the land.
The battle belongs to the Lord.
No weapon that’s fashioned against us shall stand,
The battle belongs to the Lord.
We sing glory and honor
Power and strength to the Lord.

The power of darkness comes in like a flood,
The battle belongs to the Lord.
He’s raised up a standard, the power of His blood,
The battle belongs to the Lord.
We sing glory and honor
Power and strength to the Lord.

When your enemy presses in hard do not fear,
The battle belongs to the Lord.
Take courage my friend, your redemption is near,
The battle belongs to the Lord.
We sing glory and honor
Power and strength to the Lord.

As the Deer

As the deer pants for the water
So my soul longs after You.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship You.
You alone are my strength, my shield.
To you alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship You.

You’re my friend and you are my brother
Even though you are a king.
I love you more than any other,
So much more than anything.
You alone are my strength, my shield.
To you alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you.

I want you more than gold or silver,
only you can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
and the apple of my eye.
You alone are my strength, my shield.
To you alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you.

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sins curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From a life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Could ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand.

Aren’t they beautiful. Not only do the sound beautiful but the lyrics inspire so much thought and encouragement. Our God is amazing and worthy of our praise!
