How to Prepare for the Perfect Date Night

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that my husband works about 70 hours per week. After a 12 hour work day (including Saturdays) he usually just wants to hang out at home and watch Netflix (unless he just goes straight to bed) and I don’t blame him. So we don’t get to have “date nights” very often.Therefore, when we do get a chance to go out, I like to make sure I am completely prepared so I can enjoy every minute of date night without any worries.

Today I’m sharing with you some ways to prepare before date night and my essentials to take with you on date night.

First, some ways to prepare before date night.

Health

A perfect date night starts with preparation. And preparation starts with your health. I remember back in March, Pearson and I made plans to go see a movie on a Friday night. We went ahead and bought tickets online early in the week. On Friday, Pearson came home from work early because he was sick. He was in no state to go see a movie. So I had to call and beg the theater to let us change the tickets.

Anyway, all this to say that I like to try to stay healthy for many reasons but one is so I’ll feel well enough to go on a date whenever we find time. Beauty

While you’re getting ready for date night, of course you’re going to shower, brush your teeth and hair and put on deodorant. Or at least I hope so. But why not go the extra mile? Shave your legs, paint your nails, put on a little extra makeup, and spray some perfume.

I’m sure your man doesn’t care all that much about your looks. He loves you just the way you are. But putting a little extra effort in for date night shows him you care enough to look good for him and it will boost your confidence at the same time!

Fashion

I always try to wear or bring a cardigan on date night. I’m always cold wherever I go. Except when I’m not… hence the cardigan. I can take it off if I ever get hot (cue laughs from my husband as he reads this – I’m never hot). You will hardly ever catch me out somewhere (even in the summer) without a cardigan or sweater of some sort, especially on date night. Being too cold can ruin my mood and being uncomfortable makes it hard to concentrate, neither of which I want on that special date!

Speaking of comfort, I always wear comfortable shoes. Sometimes our dates unexpectedly include walking around a mall or another active endeavor. But even if we’re not walking a lot, comfort is more important than style any day in my book. I am so glad that combat boots are so popular right now. Can I get an amen?

And lastly, the handbag! I love a good cross-body bag because I just put it across my shoulders and forget about it! I gotta make sure it’s big enough to fit all my date night essentials though… Which I’m sharing below!

Lotion

I have to have lotion on me all the time. Especially when it’s cool and dry outside. I put lotion on my dry, winter skin at least four or five times per day, I kid you not! So I always have a little travel size bottle in my purse. Especially for date night. Plus, it helps that lotions usually have a slight scent.

ChapStick

Another must have for date night (or any occasion) is lip balm. Especially in the winter. My lips get so chapped these days that I sometimes put ChapStick on every 15 minutes. Mints

I also never leave the house without pain medicine. I get headaches practically every day and nobody wants to cut a date night short because of one. Be prepared for anything on your date night so you can enjoy your time with your spouse.
