Has God Abandoned Our Country?

Sorry this post is up so late today. I went back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to post it or not. But I finally decided that I did.

Well guys, today is the day. Ohio’s presidential primary. If you live in Ohio, please go vote! Your vote matters.

Just mailed our absentee ballots for the Ohio primary on Tuesday. Pearson will be out of town and I don’t wanna go wait in line to vote. Especially by myself. But I’m a little bummed that I didn’t get an “I voted” sticker. Oh well. Anyway, please go vote on Tuesday! (or whenever your state votes). #election2016 #americanpolitics #vote #voted #vote2016

While we’re on the subject, can we talk about something? This is something that’s been on my heart through this whole election season.

I’ve heard some people say that they believe God has abandoned our country. And they have scriptures to back that up. (Romans 1:18-32)

But I don’t believe that’s true. I believe some people in our country have abandoned God, but I don’t believe He abandoned us.

God’s wrath is real. I’ll give you that. Look at that Romans passage I linked above. Or look at Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-29).

But the wrath of God is revealed always. And I think He sometimes “abandons” people. But all that means is that when God abandons us, we are cut off from Him. But we already know our sin does that (Isaiah 59:1-3).

But we have free will. That was part of God’s plan. We have the free will to sin against God and be separated from him and to have him abandon us. And we have the free will to turn back to him and I truly believe God will accept us back into his Kingdom just like the father of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).

But the kicker here is the people in Romans 1 knew God. They knew the Truth. And yet they turned away to worship themselves. They chose to do this and therefore, they won’t be coming back. So God has abandoned them.

But I believe even if they turn from their evil ways down the road, God will accept them back with open arms.

So maybe God has abandoned some people in our country, but He has not abandoned all of us. I know a lot of wonderful Christian people in our country who have not been abandoned by God.

So coming back to the topic of the election… I don’t know God’s plan for the outcome. But I believe He has a plan. I don’t believe He’s just abandoned our entire country. And I’m glad the president of this country, whoever that ends up being, is not the only authority I answer to.

What do you think? Do you agree with me or do you think God has abandoned the US?
