New Year – New Marriage (New Year’s Resolutions for Your Marriage)

New Year – New Marriage (New Year’s Resolutions for Your Marriage)

Well guys, the new year is upon us. There are just a few more days left of 2017. Can you believe it? I love starting a new year. Even though I know January 1st is just another day like all the others, it just seems like a perfect time to refresh.

Of all the things you’re going to refresh this year, of all the resolutions you’re making and the things you want to change, I want to challenge you to refresh your marriage with me! I am now officially blogging full time and I’m planning a lot of awesome marriage content. (But my January is going to be pretty busy).

So anyway, today I wanted to share a list of 20 resolutions you could make to insure this year is the best yet for your marriage. I’m not saying you should make all of these resolutions, that would be crazy! But pick a few and really try to stick to them! Oh and of course adjust the numbers and timelines for what works for you. I tried to make them as measurable as possible.

20 New Year's resolutions to choose from to make this year the best yet for your marriage. And there's a printable freebie!!
  1. Take a marriage course or join a marriage club (here are my favorite online marriage programs
  2. Write down one thing you admire about your spouse every day this year.
  3. Gone on one date every week this year. And typical Netflix at home doesn’t count unless it’s special in some way.
  4. Do some getaway, just the two of you, every quarter this year. Even if it’s just a one night stay-cation.
  5. Keep a note of items they have mentioned and might want for gifts later
  6. Check-in weekly. Or at least once per month. (My Weekly Couples Check-in Cheat Sheet is included in my “New Year – New Marriage” pack. More info below)
  7. Commit to doing daily, weekly, or monthly devotionals as a couple and a family
  8. Create a habit of connecting with each other every day. Even if just for 10 minutes. And don’t just talk about how your day went. Maybe give each other a massage or take a shower together.
  9. Put your phone and computer away every night by 9 pm (or whatever time works for you but make it a rule).
  10. Find a new hobby to do together that you both love and will want to do often – it may take a while and some trial and error to find the perfect fit for both of you. Try a cooking class, dance class, hiking, biking, join an intramural sports team etc.
  11. Commit to the 7 Days of Sex Challenge once a quarter.
  12. Send a flirty text to your spouse once every week this year.
  13. Send an encouraging text to your spouse once every week this year.
  14. Say I love you every day this year.
  15. Find something to thank your spouse for every day this year (and say it).
  16. Pray for each other every day this year. Try to pray with each other but at least pray for each other separately.
  17. Learn your spouse’s love language and try to speak it once every week this year. (Learn more about the 5 Love Languages here).
  18. Find something to celebrate together every month this year. Even if it’s just National Doughnut Day or Talk Like a Pirate Day.
  19. Make a Date Night Bucket list for the year and stick to it! (There is a Date Night Bucket List Template in my “New Year – New Marriage” pack. More below)
  20. Don’t bring past arguments into this new year. When you argue or are just irritated with your spouse, don’t bring up things that happened in the past. Let this year be a clean slate!

    I think I’m going to shoot for numbers 1, 3, 6, 9, 10, 17 and 19. What about you?
