A Day in the Life: Ohio vs. Georgia

A Day in the Life: Ohio vs. Georgia

As many of you know, I live in Ohio but I work for a company in Gainesville, Georgia. I got the job when I lived in Georgia before we moved to Columbus, and when they found out I was moving, they really wanted to keep me. So the wonderful company and my fantastic managers let me work from home every day. However, I do have to make the trip to Gainesville every couple months to work in the office for a week. This is just to help me maintain a relationship with my coworkers and to attend important meetings and Christmas parties. It’s a pain to have to travel and be reimbursed, and I hate being away from Pearson and Pip for that long, but I get to see family and old friends. Oh, and I get to work in my pajamas the rest of the time so I can’t really complain. Anyway, I was in Georgia last week and I noticed (not for the first time) that my days look a lot different when I’m in Georgia. So I thought I’d share with you a few of those differences.

Ohio Stadium taken from the plane on my way home on Friday.

A typical day in Ohio looks something like this…

  • 7:30 am: My alarm goes off
  • 7:55 am: Get out of bed, brush my teeth, make coffee
  • 8:00 am: Log into my computer and start checking emails
  • 8:00 am- noon: Work
  • noon- 1:00 pm: Take Pip outside, run, shower, make and eat lunch
  • 1:00 – 5:00 pm: Work
  • 5:00 – 6:30 ish pm: Take Pip outside, clean or blog or read. And get dinner ready
  • 6:30 (ish) pm: Pearson gets home and we eat.
  • 7:00 -10:00 (ish) pm: Watch TV with Pearson or go to a devo or whatever we have to do that night.
  • 10:00 pm (ish): Take Pip outside, go to bed (or at least that’s the goal)
Part of Atlanta taken on my way to the Airport on Friday

A typical day in Georgia looks something like this…

  • 6:30 am: My alarm goes off
  • 7:00 am: I get out of bed and get ready
  • 7:30 am: I leave the house heading to work
  • 8:00 am: Get to work, log in, talk to my coworkers about what to do in the case of a zombie apocalypse
  • 8:00 am- noon: Work and have a few conversations here and there about the Garth Brooks concerts this weekend.
  • noon- 1:00 pm: Eat lunch while working and talking to coworkers
  • 1:00 – 5:00 pm: Work and listen to a few conversations here and there about the new iPhones coming out. (I don’t participate in those conversations ;))
  • 5:00 – 5:30 pm: Drive home
  • 5:30 – 6:00 pm: Get my hair cut, or help mom with dinner, or do a Blogilates video or two (this one only happened once)
  • 6:00 (ish) pm: Eat dinner (3 out of the 5 days, I ate out and the food wasn’t the best for me if you know what I mean)
  • 7:00 pm: Go to a gospel meeting at Buford Church of Christ (the church I grew up attending)
  • 8:00 pm: Stay after the sermon and talk to tons of people who are surprised and excited to see me
  • 9:00 (ish) pm: Finally head home and watch TV with my parents
  • 11:00 pm: Make my lunch for the next day, start getting ready for bed, talk to my mom about everything under the sun, show her pictures and new clothes I’ve gotten since the last time I saw her etc. etc
  • midnight: Call Pearson and talk for a while
  • 1:00 am: Set my alarm for a measly 5.5 hours in the future and finally go to sleep
Did you notice I got a lot less sleep in Georgia? Did you notice I was going non stop and constantly talking to people (which tires me out) in Georgia? Did you notice I didn’t work out much at all in Georgia? Did you notice I ate horribly in Georgia? But you know what, I wouldn’t trade it. I love seeing everybody! Including my coworkers. I don’t consciously feel lonely in my apartment all day, but when I go into the office, I can see what I’ve been missing.
