My Picks

  • Play in the snow. If you enjoy that kind of thing, go for it! In college whenever it would snow, the whole campus would have a snowball fight. Also, Pearson and I love building snowmen together and having our own little snowball fight. Sledding is also always a must. I figure, you can’t help that it’s gonna snow so you might as well enjoy it. But if you’re really not a snow person, you can snuggle up with some hot chocolate and watch the beautiful snow fall outside a window. That’s also my favorite.
  • Attend a hockey game. We’ve been to a couple Blue Jackets games here in Columbus and they’re a lot of fun. Especially since we’re pretty good and win a lot.
  • Go hiking. We like to go to Hocking Hills, which is a beautiful state park a couple hours from us. We’ve only ever been in the fall but I’ve heard it’s beautiful in the winter too with all the snow. I don’t know if I’d ever be able to brave the cold, but some people love it.
  • Go to the movies. Of course, this is a classic. Going to a movie is a great date any time of year, but there are always really good movies that come out around the Holidays. We’ve already seen Mockingjay Part 1. There are so many more coming out in December that I want to see too.
  • Go Christmas shopping. This is also one of my favorite things to do with Pearson. We goof off a lot and sometimes we like to make it interesting with a scavenger hunt or something.

Brita’s Picks

  • Camp out in your living room. My husband and I love snuggling in front of our fireplace. Relive your childhood with a blanket fort and s’mores! Curl up on an air mattress and read books together. Sip champagne and share your dreams of your future together.
  • Decorate a Christmas tree. I love decorating for the holidays. My husband does not. Our compromise? We buy a small, live tree each year. I love going to the tree lot with him to choose the perfect tiny tree each year. At home we play the holiday station on Pandora while I decorate the tree. Then my husband makes appropriate “oohs” and “ahhs” when the tree is done.
  • Play a board game. My husband and I both love board games. While many games are best with more players, classic games like Scrabble, Mancala, and Mastermind are perfect at-home date night activities. If you really want to spice up a game for date night, you could always play strip poker…
  • Workout together. It’s easy to get lazy and sluggish in the winter. Let your spouse be your accountability partner! Make at-home workouts fun by playing Wii Fit games or by finding new routines on Youtube.
  • Try a new recipe. When the weather outside is frightful… warm up by a hot stove! If you’re really talented, whip up a romantic gourmet meal. If neither of you is that adept in the kitchen, make your own pizzas or decorate cookies.

Well there you have it! If you try any of these, let us know! Also, if you have any other fun winter date ideas, leave them in the comments and don’t forget to head over to Brita’s blog to see our collaboration over there today.
